Harrisburg International Airport

Harrisburg International Airport is located south east of the city of Harrisburg, Dauphin County, Pennsylvania. The airport is located at a distance of about 13 kilometers from the central business district of Harrisburg. The community of Middletown surrounds Harrisburg, this gives the airport its code, MDT. The Harrisburg International Airport is the third busiest airport in the state of Pennsylvania, both in terms of passengers and cargo.

The Harrisburg International Airport was constructed about a century ago. The first flights that it managed were of the US Army. The Signal Corps of the US Army was located over here. In those days, the airport was known as Olmsted Air force Base. The airport was decommissioned in 1969 and renamed as the Harrisburg International Airport. This airport was taken over by the commonwealth of Pennsylvania and started serving the common people. The ownership changed in 1998 as the Commonwealth handed over the powers to the Susquehanna Area Regional Airport Authority or SARAA. The airport system of the Harrisburg International Airport has given employment to over 1400 people. Besides handling regular flights, this airport also handles flights of the Pennsylvania Air National Guard. The Harrisburg International Airport has a single runway made of Asphalt.

The Harrisburg International Airport is well connected to all corners of the city as it is adjacent o three major interstate highways, the I-76, I-81 and the I-83. Besides this the airport also has facilities for accommodating limousines, taxis, hotel buses and shuttles.

There are three concourses in the Harrisburg International Airport. Concourse A handles all the international flights, while Concourse B and C handles domestic flights. The major airline operating in the Harrisburg International Airport are:
