Pioneer Woman

Located in the Middle Atlantic region on the eastern part of the United States of America, Pennsylvania was one of the original Thirteen Colonies, and the seat of the earliest permanent English settlements in the country. Headquartered in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania is home to an estimated population of 12,440,621 people, which makes it the fifth most populous state of the nation. Bustling cities, rich in history and tradition, dot the various corners of Pennsylvania. Highly developed and urbanized, the cities of Pennsylvania are a meeting point of tradition and modernity. Historical buildings, museums and monuments co-exist gracefully with modern skyscrapers, theme parks and swanky shopping malls in the cities of Pennsylvania. Some of the most important cities of Pennsylvania are Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Allentown, Erie, Reading, Scranton, Bethlehem, Lancaster and Frackville etc.

Lying about 55 miles northeast of Harrisburg, the borough of Frackville is situated in the Schuylkill County in the heart of the anthracite coal region of eastern Pennsylvania. Founded in 1876, Frackville is also commonly known as the Mountain City, and is an important center for coal mining in the region. As a tourist destination, Frackville is famous for its parks, restaurants and shopping malls. The city is also home to the statue of the Pioneer Woman, a gigantic, 15 feet high disturbing rendition of frontier femininity. Also called the Pioneer Mom or the Pie Woman, the statue depicts a somewhat masculine looking lady in a bonnet holding a pie and gazing blankly towards the highway. Even more peculiar is the girl child clutching the woman's dress, with the face of a 40-year old man, dragging a decapitated doll across the statue platform. Located near the Granny's Restaurant, the statue of the Pioneer Woman is visible from all parts of the city of Frackville. Every year, visitors from various corners of Pennsylvania visit Frackville to see the Pioneer Woman.
