Worlds End State Park

Worlds End State Park is one of the most picturesque state park of Pennsylvania. If you want to glean information about Pennsylvania you can afford not to make even a passing mention of Worlds End State Park. Among all Pennsylvania Parks Worlds End State Park is one of the oldest and most beautiful state park. This state Park stretches through an area of about 780 acres in Forks and Shrewsbury Townships, Sullivan County in Pennsylvania. The location of Worlds End State Park is also unique for it is located in a serpentine valley on Loyalsock Creek. This the park is encompassed by Loyalsock State Forest.

The unique name of this park, "Worlds End" has been prevalent since at least 1872, however there is not clear cut theory about the origins of this particular name of this charming state park of Pennsylvania. Even if this park was founded as "Worlds End State Park" in the year 1932 but the park was officially known as "Whirls End State Park" between the years 1936 to 1943. However after 1943 the Park reverted back to this original name.

The thriving second growth forests in and surrounding Worlds End State Park in Pennsylvania are a result of the efforts of the young men of the Civilian Conservation Corps during the Great Depression. They aided to overcome the clear cutting of the early Twentieth Century endeavored to build many of the facilities that have earned the park a place on the National Register of Historic Places.

A wide array of birds and animals in World End State Park, and its rocks contain fossils older than the dinosaurs. The flora and fauna of Worlds End State Park is really amazing. Worlds End State Park has extensive and verdant forest cover of hemlock-filled valleys and tree-covered mountains. As a result it provides the perfect abode for "big woods" wildlife. The wild life in Worlds End State Park includes such animals as white-tailed deer, black bear and wild turkeys. Such rare species of creatures bobcats, coyote and river otters are also found in the Worlds End State Park.

Bird watching in World End State Park is also very popular. Avid Bird watchers have observed about 200 species of birds in the park including such rare birds like the northern goshawk, yellow-bellied flycatcher and the white-throated sparrow. The Worlds End State Park tops the list of twenty "Must See" parks by the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, is open year round. There are several recreational opportunities in World End State Park include hiking, camping in tents and cabins, white water rafting.
