The State Museum is open from 9:00A.M to 5.00P.M. On Sunday the museum opens at 12 noon the museum is closed on Monday.
The museum is four storied exhibiting Pennsylvania’s story. It has a multi-media planetarium where you get the opportunity to explore the stars and planets. The museum houses archeological facts, paintings, arts, military objects.
In the fine art section the museum has 5000 paintings, prints, art craft, and photographs which date back to 1650. The volume of collection is a result of donations by public for the purpose of display. Even today donations are encouraged.
The paleontology and geology section of the museum has a huge collection of fossils fish, fossil insects, marine invertebrates and dinosaurs along with fossil rocks collected from Pennsylvania’s anthracite coal fields, rocks and minerals from all over the world.
At the archeology section of the State Museum of Pennsylvania you can trace the evolution of man from the Stone Age to the present day. It also traces the evolution of first inhabitants of Pennsylvania.
In the community and domestic life section there are 32,000 artifacts dealing with textiles, clothing, folk arts, silverwares, glassware, ceramics, kitchenware, vacuum cleaners, and many more used by the Native Americans from 18th century to the 20th century.
