The National War Museum in Pennsylvania is the only museum that showcases the entire history of the American civil war.
Open from Wednesday to Saturday from 10 AM to 5 PM and Sunday from 12noon to 5 PM it remains closed on Federal holidays except for Memorial day, 4th July and Veterans Day.

The national civil war Museum has a huge collection of artifacts, manuscripts, photographs, and documents relating to the American Civil war. Most of its items are donated by the citizens.
The National Civil War Museum encompasses a period from 1850-1876. As a result it has a collection varying widely in scope. The museum pays more attention towards the human side of the conflict. It exhibits materials used by the soldiers and common people in the civil war.
The museum has put a great deal of effort in including the experiences of the soldiers from wounds, dieses prisoner-of-war experiences to personal espionage. The museum pays a great deal of attention to the pre-war sectional conflict and slavery. The post war artifacts deal with the impact of the war on the expansion of the nation.
The museum has two floors. The exhibits of the National War Museum are displayed in both the floors. We will start our journey from the second floor.
To start with we have A House divided which showcases the pre-war situation where United States was divided into Northerners and Southerners based on the economic disparity, white and black, military and civilian.
Next is the American Slavery where you can even see depiction of slave auction and the life of those held in bondage.
The First Shots show the bombing of Fort Sumter and its eventual surrender thus starting the war.
The formation of one of the largest armies in the world is depicted in Making of Armies.
This part also deals with the weapons and equipments used by the army during the war.
Campaigns And Battles of 1862 deals in the tactics and strategies used in the battle by the officers.
Camp Curtin was a training camp established in Pennsylvania to train soldiers.
Why Men Fought tells us about the motivations of the soldiers to fight the war.
Civil War Music tells us how music inspired them. You can also here the tunes.
In the second floor Gettysburg shows the use of weapons by artillery and infantry.
Cost of War looks the weary and wounded soldiers and the inhumane condition of prisoners-of-war.
Women in the War tell us the role of the women in the war.
Navy artifacts give a picture of the role played by the navy.
Lincoln: War and Remembrance focuses on the impact of the war on America.
