Reading

Reading is a beautiful city in Pennsylvania. The county seat of Berks County, Pennsylvania is Reading. It is located at the heart of the Greater Reading Area. According to the census of 2000, the population of the city is 81,207, which makes it the fifth largest city in Pennsylvania only after Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Allentown and Erie. Reading in Pennsylvania is mainly famous for the breathtaking view of Mount Penn from this marvelous place. A Japanese pagoda is the signature mark of Reading, Pennsylvania. Tourists from round the globe flock to this city for Reading mainly for this “pagoda”. This Japanese Pagoda was built in 1908 as a hotel, but the strange thing is this was never used as a hotel. Still now this pagoda is a vibrant tourist attraction of Reading, Pennsylvania.

The Duryea Drive ascends the Mount Penn with its numerous sharp and hair-pin bends. This road was named after famous Charles Duryea. Then name o0f this city is adopted from the Reading Railway which is not in use any more. This railroad was built to bring anthracite coal to this coal region of Pennsylvania.

Once ‘Reading’ was among those localities, where outlet shopping used to be the most vibrant tourist industry. The Pretzel bakeries helped this locality earn the, name of “The Pretzel Capital”. There is a Double-A Eastern League baseball team in Reading, called Reading Phillies. The East Coast Hockey League ice Hockey team is famous in the whole country. The name of this hockey league is Reading Royals.

There are five institutes of higher education in Reading. Those are Albright College, Alvernia College, Berks Technical Institute, Pace Institute, and Reading Area Community College. The cultural institutions in the country include Museum and symphony orchestra. Goggle Works Art Gallery is one of the famous museums in the United States. The renowned poet Wallace Stevens was born in Reading. So this small but beautiful place is a natural choice for people interested in literature.
