Philadelphia University is one of the oldest universities of Philadelphia. It was established in the year 1884. The university has a total of about three thousand five hundred students. It is one of the popular universities of the world and offer the best teaching faculties. The Philadelphia University has various schools under its administration, such as, School of Architecture, School of Liberal Arts, School of Science and Health, School of Engineering and Textiles. The University stands in the East Falls area of Philadelphia. |
In the year 1876, during the US Centennial celebration, it was found that the quality of the textile products offered by the European mills was far better that those produced by the Americans. As a result, a textile school was decided to be set up where a large number of American textile workers were appointed. After a few years, the Philadelphia Museum of Art was founded where the School of Philadelphia Textiles was invited. This school provided teaching classes to the students and also various educational programs were arranged.
During the year1954, the total number of students nearly doubled from their former population in this university. The degree of a graduate was first given by the Philadelphia College of Textiles and Science. In the year 1999, it was given the authorization of a university. Today, Philadelphia university has become one of the popular universities in the world in attracting students from about thirty countries and nearly fifty states.
Some of the facilities offered within the campus of University of Philadelphia are Gibbs Hall, Design Center, Gutman Library, Chapel, Archer Hall, Recreation Center, Fashion Merchandising, Hayward Hall, Hughes Gymnasium, Interior Design Studios and Roxboro House.
Various courses are offered by the university in various subjects like Science, Design, Fashion, Engineering and Textiles, Architecture, Liberal arts and many such streams.
