From the very ancient period , the tendency to explore, discover and adventure is very distinctly visible in man. Where he has not gone? What he has not explored? What he has not achieved ?As far as adventure is concerned, the art of mountaineering is a great one. Mountaineering, which is also known as Alpinism, is an art of trekking and climbing up mountains. But this art of climbing mountains, which was not much common previously, is now quite commonly practised all over the world. For mountaineering one has to specialize in rock-craft, snow-craft and skiing which have to be applied in accordance with the chosen route.

A major portion Pennsylvania is a part belonging to the Appalachian Mountains,taking into consideration the south central and north -eastern regions of the state. Owing to the proximity to the mountains, the rest of the state is extremely hilly and rocky. Due to the presence of mountains and hilly areas , the art of mountaineering is profusely practised in Pennsylvania. The beginners are first given training in indoor areas, and then they are shifted outside to the parks and mountains of the region. Exkursion Outfitters and School of Mountaincraft, which is also a popular school, trains people for Pennsylvania mountaineering.
